How often should a garage door be serviced?
Garador asks for a first service within 12 months, then one every two years. What that visit covers, and how it affects your warranty.
The short answer
- Within the first 12 months, then every two years, by an Authorised Garador Dealer.
- Servicing keeps Garador’s warranty valid and catches worn parts before they fail.
- Between services: wash the door, check the balance, never touch the springs.
When
Garador asks for a service within the first 12 months of installation, then one every two years, by an Authorised Garador Dealer. Doors that work hard, sit in salt air or carry an opener every day are better on the shorter end. Garador openers count cycles and remind you with a beep and a light when a service is due.
What a service covers
The balance of the door and the spring tension; the rollers, hinges, tracks and cables, cleaned and lubricated where Garador says to; the opener’s travel limits, force and safety reverse; the safety beams if fitted; the weather seals and the lock. You get a note of anything coming up, so a worn cable is replaced on a Tuesday rather than failing on a Sunday.
Between services
Wash the door with clean water and a cloth every 14 days, more often near the sea, and never wash the opener. Every three to six months, put the opener in manual mode and lift the door by hand: it should feel about the same both ways. Look at the cables for fraying, but never adjust cables or springs.
Why it matters for the warranty
Garador’s warranties are valid only if the door and opener are maintained as the owner’s handbook describes, and the Reliability Warranty package requires the dealer service schedule. Skipping services can cost you the cover when you need it.
