Replacing an old tilt door: your options

Tilt doors swing out, blow shut and leak at the sides. What fits in their place when there’s little room above the opening.

The short answer

  • Tilt doors swing out over the driveway, can blow shut and leave a gap each side.
  • Flex‑A‑Door replaces a tilt door with as little as 80 mm of headroom and fits behind the opening.
  • With more headroom, a roller door (about 400 mm) or a sectional door (from 200 mm with a low-headroom kit) opens up more choice.

Why people replace them

A tilt door needs the driveway clear to open, which is awkward on a short drive; it can slam shut in a gust; it fits inside the opening, so wind and rain come through the gaps at the sides; and older spring fittings can be dangerous when they fail.
